Lot 17

Two Sketchbooks of Original Comic Illustration Art

I'm in possession of two spiral bound sketchbooks containing 54 detailed full-page pencil and crayon drawings created in 1950 by many of the most famous cartoonists of all time. (Actually, they are contained on 53 pages with the only two smaller drawings merged on one page.) In almost every case, the artist depicted one or more of his most memorable comic characters. For example, Hal Foster drew Prince Valiant, Milton Caniff drew Steve Canyon and Al Capp drew Li'l Abner. In some cases, there are multiple figures such as Rube Goldberg's rendering of three men. The signed drawings were created for (and in many cases, inscribed to) a young girl. The collection is in excellent condition.
